Feature: "Planet of the Apes"

Featured Book:  "Planet of the Apes" by Pierre Boulle

Format- Kindle E-Book, 274 pages.  Del Rey, Random House Digital, Inc.  ASIN: B004JHYK7O

Planet of the Apes is probably best known for the movies with stars like Charlton Heston and Roddy McDowall.  Half naked human apes running around wild and clothed non-human apes being the most civilized beings on perhaps a not so unfamiliar planet is a wonderful story (for a movie or novel).

Luckily for the interested reader Pierre Boulle the author of Planet of the Apes (the original French novel that started the mass media explosion) is a widely available and interesting read.  A simple search will still turn up today a mass market or e-book edition of this novel that really should be read in one sitting.

The astute reader or Apes fan may realize certain twists and turns will be hinted at prior to full revelation within the novel.  Spoilers aside this novel could have benefited from perhaps less foreshadowing for one or two twists.

If you are an anthropologist or just like awesome talking (non-human) apes this novel is surely one not to pass up.

Next Featured Book:  "The Colour of Magic", The First Discworld Novel by Terry Pratchett

Update 6/19/2012:  Game plan changed.  Next book will be "The Once and Future King" and it will be broken up into three posts with the first featuring the first part of the book The Sword In The Stone.

English!  Do you speak it?

Feature: "The Many Faces Of Arsene Lupin"

First and foremost let me tell you something.  I am and for some time have been an Arsene Lupin addict.  Arsene Lupin is certainly in my top 5 favorite people of all time (yes I know he is a fictional character).  He is number one when it comes to my favorite fictive fellows.

With that said this post will be biased (sorry objectivity) somewhat.

Featured Book:  "The Many Faces Of Arsene Lupin"  by Maurice Leblanc & others, edited by J-M. & R. Lofficier

Format- Trade Paperback, 308 pages.  Black Coat Press.  ISBN-13: 978-1-61227-049-4

Content- Short stories and plays featuring the French favorite Arsene Lupin, gentleman cambrioleur.  A great literary resource all within one trade paperback book. The book contains Lupin stories that have appeared in other Black Coat Press books, five new stories making their first appearance in this book, and two Lupin tales by Maurice Leblanc in English for the first time. Twenty-one stories total!

Themes- Christmas, The Prisoner, Holmes, Love, Respect, and more.  Something for everyone!

Thoughts- An Arsene Lupin-centric collection is always a good thing.  The quality of the tales within this book make it great!  I love Black Coat Press for publishing high quality books featuring French fiction in English!

Next Featured Book:  "Planet of the Apes" (kindle edition) by Pierre Boulle
La Planète des singes? Yes it does seem that I am on French fiction kick.

Blog News:  Future Features will follow the above subjective tone with some basic details about a book.  Perhaps in the future my posts will be in a more proper review (read: over analyzed) format (probably not).  Then again the future lasts forever so we will see.

Coming Soon! A New Bibliophile Blog!

I love books!  The current plans for this blog is to discuss a few book related things.  The blog will feature popular favorites, classics, and a few small print books.  In addition whatever else I want to discuss concerning bibliophile madness will also be featured.

First book to be discussed (hopefully by this time next week; I'm excited so I will go ahead and post the draft) is a new release from Black Coat Press:
"The Many Faces Of Arsene Lupin" by Maurice Leblanc & et al. edited by J-M. & R. Lofficier.

Look Forward To It!
